Company History

Martin Matiao Transport Services, Inc. started its business in 1972. The name was chosen because it is the name of the patriarch of the family the late Martin Matiao.

The company started with only one truck, which was used to peddle grocery items from house to house. In 1976, they started to transport LPG from Dumaguete to Cebu and vice-versa. All goods and products were hauled from Cebu City. Then the patriarch Martin Matiao and son, Wilcox,thought that if they can get clients to have their stocks shipped from Cebu to Negros Oriental through our trucking services, their businesses would be more proﬁtable. Since then, the idea has caught on and the division has grown. In 1979, they began to transport other goods. In 1980, they began transporting lumber, cement, and other goods. They initially rented a small warehouse, but because of the increasing number of customers they decided to add more trucks and rent a bigger warehouse.

Presently, the company is investing into buying more trucks to serve the growing needs of the city. Various trucks are used such as 10 wheeler cargo trucks, wing van trucks and 18 wheeler trailer trucks. It has daily trips between Negros and Cebu Island and is being served by another sister company, Maayo Shipping, Inc. to cross the channel.

Through the years, the company has grown to expand its operation to other major cities in the Visayas Region. Arrangements could also be made for trips to Manila and Mindanao Region. It provides an essential service to the Dumaguete economy by transporting large quantities of cargoes and products over land—typically from manufacturing plants to retail distribution centers.
